Herniated Discs

Herniated discs, also known as slipped discs or ruptured discs, are a common cause of back pain. They occur when one of the discs that cushion the bones in your spine tears or ruptures, allowing the gel-like center to push through the tear and press on nerves.

Herniated discs can cause a variety of symptoms, including:

how can we help

If you are experiencing any of the above issues, we're here to help. we can provide clear diagnosis and discuss treatment options, via non-surgical, non-injection and non-invasive personalised care. Our specialised treatment is designed to relieve pressure on spinal discs and nerves, helping to reduce pain and improve mobility in conditions such as herniated discs, sciatica, and chronic back or neck pain.

Using a computer-controlled system, the Accu Spina IDD applies precise, targeted stretching to the affected area of the spine, creating negative pressure within the disc to encourage the retraction of bulging material and promote the flow of oxygen and nutrients for natural healing. This treatment is typically part of a wider rehabilitation programme, and for many patients, it offers an effective alternative to injections or surgery, with the goal of restoring function, reducing pain, and supporting long-term spinal health.

SCIATICA

Sciatica is a type of pain that affects the sciatic nerve, which runs from your lower back down the back of your leg. It is often caused by a herniated disc in your spine that presses on the nerve.

IDD DECOMPRESSION THERAPY

Intervertebral Differential Dynamics or IDD Therapy was developed in North America by a team of healthcare professionals, including neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons. IDD Therapy is a non-invasive treatment which relieves pressure on targeted spinal discs and gently restores mobility to the affected area.

At Swale Back Pain Clinic, IDD Therapy is our specialist treatment programme for unresolved back or neck pain which need more than manual therapy alone. Conditions can range from herniated or bulging discs, sciatica or nerve pain, degenerative disc disease, facet joint syndrome and chronic back or neck pain.

Our IDD Therapy machine, the Accu SPINA allows patients to be positioned vertically on the table, then be slowly moved to a pleasant horizontal level for effective treatment. It is computer controlled and perfectly comfortable. The process works by oscillation, creating gentle traction forces to your problem areas, in which to decompress targeted spinal segments. This relieves pain and takes pressure off the spine. All while gently stretching the soft tissues through the course of each session to help improve your pain and mobility.

If you have degenerate, compressed or herniated spinal discs, the fluid dynamics and structure of your discs will be compromised, leading to poor function and pain. We can improve mobility in the spine and allow the body’s natural healing mechanisms to operate more efficiently. IDD Therapy is a very gentle but equally dynamic treatment which is safe, non-invasive and suitable for people from 18 years and over.

Further to this we study in great detail your recent Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) studies. These will need to be completed no more than 12 months prior, to ensure we are precisely guided to your problem area. Included with your personal IDD care plan, we also provide you with hands-on therapy from osteopathy, massage therapy, when considered helpful to you and fully tailored exercise regimes. All to help you further reduce your pain and have you moving better both now and in the future.

UNDERSTANDING IDD THERAPY

IDD Therapy is designed to treat severe or chronic unresolved neck or lower back pain, headaches originating from the neck and lower back and arm or leg nerve pain. You will have been diagnosed with a prolapsed disc, annular tear, bulging disc, degenerative disc, facet joint problem or “slipped” disc previously, or have consulted with us and we suspect you have one.

We will complete an initial consultation when we meet with you, we will record the history of your problem and carry out a full examination to develop a diagnosis and to completely safety net you. You will already have a recent MRI scan, images and report no older than 12 months or have been referred for one by another practitioner or indeed by us. Please note we are unable to proceed without an MRI Scan, as we need to know the exact spinal disc level we are targeting and ensure your programme is suitable.

We will complete an MRI report on findings with you. At this point, we are able to explain to you with clarity and in plain English, your diagnosis, the nature of your problem, the severity of your problem and if you are likely to benefit from IDD Therapy. From this we can then ascertain the number of therapy sessions potentially required to improve your problem, these typically range from 24, 30 or 40 session programmes, followed by regular intervals of maintenance sessions. We issue a proposed tailored rehabilitation exercise programme, along with lifestyle advice and also, the cost of your investment in your full course of decompression therapy.

Typical candidates for IDD Therapy are people who have back, neck pain or leg pain and may have tried various other treatments without success. You will want to stop taking and relying on painkillers. You will be seeking long-term pain relief. You may be considering invasive treatments such as injections or in extreme cases, surgery. Ultimately you wish to return to normal daily activities and the life you want to lead. At Swale Back Pain Clinic, we are greatly improving or resolving 92% of our spinal disc injury patient’s pain, via non-surgical, non-injection, non-invasive treatment.
